"With this equipment, we can now reach speeds of 25 knots, with peaks of 30 knots"
It was with a daily training regimen and extraordinary determination that the young man tackled the challenge. Two support craft and a team of 6 accompanied him on his lengthy crossing.
They set off from the embankment of the Principality of Monaco on the morning of Friday, 29 April 2016.
"I had an excellent start, with good winds; I soon had an hour's worth of crossing time under my belt... And then there was nothing!"
Weather conditions thus triumphed over Maxime's first attempt. Yet none of this has discouraged the young athlete, who remains committed to this record-breaking attempt.
"I'm not disappointed. We will try again, as soon as weather conditions permit"
"I'm very glad I could break this record by such a distance. It was physically very demanding"
Maxime set sail for a second time on Thursday, 4 May 2016! He left the Principality of Monaco by kitefoil at 9:00 am, and arrived in Calvi at 13:13.
HE MADE THE CROSSING OF 196 KM IN 4H AND 13MIN, BREAKING THE RECORD BY MORE THAN AN HOUR!!!
